Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the festival. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.” Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus. Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. (John 12:20-26)
We have come to end of our journey for this year. Yes, Day 40 has arrived. Tomorrow will simply be a postscript of thanks and celebration. Today we review the day in between the cross and the empty tomb. We know the end of the story but back then it must have seemed like evil and the devil had won. The price for our sins had already been paid on the cross but without resurrection Sunday there would be no proof and there would be no power. As Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:17, “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.” Hallelujah we know how Jesus showed up on Sunday!
In the passage above, Jesus prophesied about his own death and resurrection. Please prayerfully read the passage and answer the questions below.
