40 Days of Discipline: Day 32 – Creation

4He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.  5Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. (Psalm 147:4 – 5)

“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm.  Nothing is too hard for you. (Jeremiah 32:17)

We conclude our consideration of the Discipline of Creation today and continue our focus on the theme: A world in need.  A significant benefit of practicing the Discipline of Creation is the opportunity to meditate on attributes of God. Throughout the Bible we see the connection between creation and descriptions of God.  I believe this presents an opportunity to present the real God to the world – a God who is sovereign, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, faithful, good, and so much more.

A sad reality is that the world is prepared to settle for lesser gods, often of their own creation.  With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we have the opportunity through the use of creation to point the world to Elohim (supreme one or mighty one).

Please prayerfully read the passages above and consider the suggestion below.

  1. Genesis 1; Psalm 19:1-3; Psalm 104; and Isaiah 40:26

  2. This was the first passage that came to mind. I am amazed and grateful for God’s mindfulness of me. In spite of me.
Psalm 8:3- 4 New International Version (NIV)

3 When I consider your heavens,
    the work of your fingers,
    the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?[a]

  3. God’s power & wisdom is shown in the following verses: Job 26:7 (KJV)
He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
Isaiah 40:22. (KJV) it is He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth…………..
Also, that the beauty He creates is amazing, mankind is not capable of creating any. They are for us to enjoy, which shows His love for us.
Luke 12:27. Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not and yet I say unto you , that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. God created us. Genesis 1:27. So God created man in His own image , in the image of God created he him; Male and female created he them.

  4. Also the Power, wisdom & love of God can be seen in of God , Genesis 1 verses 3 & onwards: God only had to speak to create light etc. Eg verse 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

  5. Genesis 1:26 “ Then God said , Let us make mankind in our image and likeness….” ( The “us” in here refers to the trinity).

Psalms 66:4 “ All the earth bows down to you, they sing praise to you, they sing the praise of your name.”

Psalm 19:1 “ The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

Chronicles16:33 “ Let the trees of the forest sing, let them sing joy before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth.”

  6. I know these are not a single verses, but I love Genesis 1 and 2. These two chapters are the beginning of what should be a beautiful story. (Disobedience to God in Chapter 3 changes things).

John 1:3 Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made

  7. Psalm 104: 2-4 & 10 -15 & Matthew 6: 28-29 These show God’s majesty and love for all He created.

  8. Then God said, “Let there be light”. All of Genesis 1
