9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ (Matthew 6:9 – 13, New International Version)
Theme: Discipleship
Context:
Your one-word summaries of the four passages of Scripture yesterday serve as excellent reminders of how we should approach prayer. Thanks for the thoughtful responses!
Today we turn to the prayer that has been called the “model prayer.” A disciple of Jesus never tires of the Lord’s Prayer. It communicates something new each time you consider it deeply. Take one more deep look today and focus on what the prayer tells us about Jesus’ priorities and agenda.
Bible Passage:
Please prayerfully read today’s Scripture passage and use the words as the foundation for a conversation with God. After praying, consider the question below.
Question:
If you were asked to list four things that the Lord’s prayer tells you Jesus really cares about, what four things would you list?
Sharing your thoughts could be a big help to someone else. Please leave a comment on the blog.

Firstly, I believe Jesus cares about acknowledging and declaring our relationship with God. He is the Father and as a result we are His children. Secondly, He is holy, separate and apart from us. We must revere and honor Him. Thirdly, we should seek the Word daily. Reading and studying the Bible to get our daily spiritual nourishment is Jesus’ request. Jesus cares that we acknowledge and declare that we are sinners. Consequently, we ask for His forgiveness.

Jesus wants us to know how to pray, and four things the Lord’s prayer tells us Jesus really cares about is:
1. God’s name being holy and sacred.
2. That we strive to live godly lives (do God’s will) throughout our lifetime on Earth.
3. That we ask God to forgive us when we sin, and that we forgive those who sin against us.
4. That we not give in to things in life that are against God’s will for us.

Jesus obviously thought it important to teach his disciples a method of praying.
1: We must begin our prayers with praising God.
2: We pray for the necessary supports and comforts for everyday living.
3: As we ask forgiveness of our sins we need to be conscious to forgive others who have wronged us.
4: Help us never to return to the sins that tripped us up and keep us from the evil one.

The Lord ‘s prayer shows Jesus really cares for us because:
1. It is a prayer that tells us we have a Sovereign God who knows everything.
2. He forgives and gives us hope and life.
3. He provides all that we need.
4. He protects us from the evil one and guides us to our future as He is our Light.
By the way, I just want to say yesterday I made a mistake with my answer. I really thought we had to do word game. My understanding of the question was to read each verses and try to find a word in there that really strikes me or relates to me and to how it contributes to my faith and belief in God. I actually enjoyed looking for such “one” word in each verse yesterday. Thank you for every day lesson Norman. I wake up in the morning and always looking forward to learning and reading new topic each day. Every year when we’ re done with the 40- day discipline (study) , I miss it, after it is over. It becomes part of my devotional every day for 40 days. All that we tackle in this study is very informative and encouraging for me. Thank you very much.
