But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9, New International Version)
Theme: The Local Church
Context:
It was wonderful to see how all the comments yesterday had a clear theme, God should be the focus of worship in the local church. It seems such an obvious statement but easier said than done. Yesterday, we saw the Levites leading in communal worship and we saw their attitude to worship. Within the tribe of Levites there were priests who had special responsibility for worship in the tabernacle. We will discuss the topic of priests today.
Bible Passage:
Today’s passage is 1 Peter 2:9 (presented above). In the passage, believers are identified as a royal priesthood and commensurate with that role is an expectation of declaration of praises to God.
Question:
What does our identity as a royal priesthood mean to you as you reflect on worship in the local church?

Our identity as royal priesthood means we have the same obligation/role as the priests from the tribe of the Levites. We are expected to share or make everybody know about God, and praise Him for rescuing us, and allowing us to be His.

Our identity as Royal Priesthood, to me , means that as privileged children of God, we are ordained by the Lord to perform Christian ministry. We are to take seriously our role to share the gospel and never be ashamed to do our calling for the Lord, to glorify Him and be faithful in serving our God. All of us believers have ministry in our journey as Christian, and as long as we don’t lose grip on God’s hand, we are able to do what He wants us to do and to serve our purpose for that is the reason we are created – to serve God, live humbly with God’s word as source of wisdom and light to our path. It maybe easy to say all these, but it takes a lot of faith, perseverance, love and indwelling of the Holy Spirit to be a Royal Priest in this present tine.

Our identity as a Royal Priesthood. Royalty – speaks to our position in Christ, which can be traced throughout the bible. This acts as a reminder and establishes who we are and to whom we belong. Called, Chosen and Set apart.
Priest/Priesthood – preparation, coming away from and committing self to study and research then going out to serve. We may not be called to the ordained ministry, but we are all Christ witnesses wherever, we live, work and play.
It’s that daily reminder that as a collective body and as individual this journey is about faith, sacrifice, service, leaning on the Holy Spirit for grace upon grace to run this race with Christ.
