40 Days of Discipline: Day 16 – Review

In the month of Kislev in the twentieth year, while I was in the citadel of Susa, Hanani, one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant that had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem.  They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”  When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. (Nehemiah 1:1 – 4)

Theme:  If not You, then Who?

Today is dedicated to reviewing what we have learned over the past five days.  This is a good time to catch up on the commentaries if you haven’t had a chance to read them all.

What can you apply to your life from the discussions related to Prayer and Fasting?

  1. Prayer is essential. It is our direct “line” to God. We should pray about everything, knowing that God hear us. It shouldn’t just be when we’re in desperate situations. It should be a way of life. We should also be prepared to listen and hear from God, and accept and/or follow through with His response.

Fasting allows us to leave behind some of our distractions so we can be more focused on our time of prayer with God.

No matter how and when we pray and fast, reminding ourselves that we can “pray without ceasing”, because God won’t get tired of hearing from us, and that God hears and answers our prayers, should bring us peace of mind.

  2. Prayer to a Christian is like food and water, which are necessary to our sustenance. Prayer s vital to our walk with God. It when we communicate with God ..We praise Him Worship Him Ask for our daily bread. Fasting allows us to come away from some of the every day distractions that may impede our capacity to hear God’s small still voice. Comunicatng with God involves a two way communication.. After we make our requests known to God we must wait on God for His direction. ..” Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all our ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.” Prov3;5-6

  3. Bible study and Prayer is the core of our faith. They cannot be separated. When you do bible study, you pray before and after the study. We also ask the Holy Spirit to lead our study, to prepare and penetrate our hearts for the word to become alive and rule our life. These two disciplines are like battery charger for Christians to keep on going and live a life focused on our creator and Lord Jesus.

Having a bible study group allows us not only to study the word and grow us, but it also helps us build friendship as we share prayer request and have fellowship with each one in the group. It’s also a source of encouragement and spiritual support. Prayer is our connection to God. We can talk to him daily, anywhere, anytime, and rest assured our prayers are heard because our God never sleeps and watches us 24/7.

  4. Life without Prayer is no life.
