And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” (Luke 2:49)
37 Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives, 38 and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple. (Luke 21:37-38)
We now switch our attention to the Discipline of Stewardship. This Discipline reminds us to submit to God’s agenda. The word stewardship is often linked to money. However, we know it involves much more than money. In fact, today’s passage highlights an area of stewardship that we often struggle with, our time.
Please read the passage and answer the questions below.
Today’s Questions:
- How would you describe the way Jesus related to His father’s agenda?
- How do you test your calendar for alignment with God’s agenda?

Jesus related to His father’s agenda by saying and living the words “thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” He lived God’s agenda with urgency, God’s timing and compassion.
I have to do a better job of being efficient with my time allowing God freedom to direct my path to where He wants me to focus.

Jesus had an established routine that centered God’s agenda. His agenda was Jesus’ number one priority.
There was a devotional I read a few months back that asks you to consider practicing the following: With every thought, action, or task, finish with the words “in Jesus’ name.” (“What if I were to say and do every single thing today ‘in Jesus’ name’ with a thankful attitude?”) It seems simple to do in theory, but I realized that much of my time is spent in opposition to that phrase. This practice has helped me to align myself more with God’s agenda, ensuring that my actions are pleasing to Him and not for my own gain. But, I still have a long way to go.
