40 Days of Discipline: Day 21 – Creation

27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?  28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.  29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. (Matthew 6:27-29)

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.  30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. (Matthew 10:29-31)

Time certainly flies – we are already half way through our journey.  As we think about how quickly time flies, it is a good time to focus on the Discipline of Creation, which often suffers from our inability to slow down.  The Discipline of Creation encourages us to experience God through creation.  Again, Jesus serves an excellent model in this regard.  The passages above demonstrate that Jesus took the time to focus on creation.

Please read the passages and consider the requests below.

Today’s Questions:

  1. Please take some time today to focus on some aspect of creation and meditate on what it tells you about God.
  2. We would love to hear about the outcome of your meditation.

  1. It is a brilliant sunny day today here in London – not that frequent an occurrence! – and while I cannot see any hills, I am reminded of the Psalms as I look up at the clear blue sky…

    Psalm 121:1-2 NIV
[1] I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? [2] My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

…and I am encouraged to know the truth of a God bigger than anything I face in the here & now, or could ever face! Praise be to God

  2. It’s another beautiful morning in Trinidad. I just checked out a beautiful sunrise over the Gulf of Paria, watched some birds fly over the water and listened to birds singing. God is all over this, and morning by morning new mercies I see. Great is His faithfulness!

  3. “And even the very hairs on your head are numbered”…Our God, our Creator is awesome. Although we can physically see and feel our hair, it seems almost impossible to number them, such an insignificant thing to us, but Our God knows the numbers. This speaks to his matchless, incomprehensible,, abundant love for us. I can only bow in humble adoration before Him who is worthy of all praise Honour and Adoration.

  4. As the birds awaken me each and every morning with their beautiful songs of thanks and praise to Our Lord. I am reminded of the very verses quoted above. I see the sun coming over the crest of the hills behind me and I see His Glory all around. As Cecily said I can only bow in humble adoration before HIm and know His peace. He is the One and Only Living God, all Praise and Honour to Him

  5. Most of my runs are usually in the morning and I am blessed to live close to the beach. I get to see the sunrise most mornings and it is different each morning.
God amazes me by making sameness different. 😊 Like the sunrise we are all the same – humans- but so different and he cares enough about us to respond to us. I believe we are more important to Him than the sunrise and they are beautiful.

  6. What a wonderful expression of praise we experienced in the comments today. Thanks!
