40 Days of Discipline: Day 16 – Prayer (basic Discipline)

“Jesus, Jesus how I trust Him, how I’ve proved him o’er and o’er.”

Wasn’t it great to pray the Psalms?  I hope you found that one or more of the Psalm really represented your heart’s cry.  Psalm 63:1 really captured my heart:  “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.”

I hope the experience of praying at the start your day, during the day, and at the end of the day over this past week brought 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (Pray without ceasing.) more to life. Here are the minimum requirements for today:

  • Start of Day Requirement:  On this sixth and final day of focus on Prayer, we are going to start our day by expressing our love for God.  In your own words, tell God all the reasons why you love him.
  • During the Day Requirement:  We will pray the Lord’s prayer in installments.  Try  praying the Lord’s prayer throughout the day in sections. An example of breaking it into sections follows: (1)[Our Father in heaven,] (2)[hallowed be your name,] (3)[your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.]  (4)[Give us today our daily bread.] (5)[And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.] (6)[And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.]  If you come up with different sections, it doesn’t matter the important thing is to focus on the prayer throughout the day.
  • End of Day Requirement:  Think about what transpired this week as you focused on prayer and talk to God about it.  What went well and what didn’t go so well.  Confess your shortcomings and thank him for the power and help he provides.  Please visit the blog site and read the comments for the week to find prayer requests and remember them in prayer.

Prayer thought for today:  The Bible said it best, “Pray without ceasing.”

Please use the comments option to leave and review prayer requests.

  1. God still answers prayer- thanks for your encouraging testimony Toni. Thanks to all who prayed for 8 yr old Dylan Sampson who suffered a seizure at school on March 6th. After emergency surgery to stop bleeding in his brain and remove a clot, doctors gave him a 50/50 chance of survival. But praise and thanks to Almighty God he is out of ICU and improving daily. He has not spoken or walked since the operation. Please pray for a full recovery and strength for his mom Nicole who is a single parent of 3 boys.
