40 Days of Discipline: Day 26 – Stewardship

Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. (1 Corinthians 4:1 NKJV)

26the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints.  27To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:26 – 27)

We now turn our attention to the discipline of stewardship.

By definition, stewardship is all about managing what God has blessed us with in ways that bring honor and glory to Him.  Often this discipline focusses on the topic of financial resources, which is extremely important.  However, we know that stewardship is a much broader concept.  The passages above remind us that we are most importantly stewards of God’s glory revealed through Christ.  This is an awesome responsibility!

Please read the passages above carefully and answer the question below.

Question:

What would you suggest are practical ways that we can be good stewards of the “riches of the glory” revealed in Jesus?

  1. At times the riches of His glory looks like:
Taking time to acknowledge someone’s worth.
Sharing a genuine smile with a stranger.
Anonymously providing for a stated need.
Listening with an ear of compassion.
Living an intentional life of grace and gratitude.
Even as I am writing this out I think – love like Christ loves, live like Christ lived.

  2. You said it Bridget.Even though I probably may never meet you God Bless.
I especially like the one “sharing a smile with a stranger”.
I do it often and so nice when reciprocated.

  3. Jesus in Matthew 5:14-16 says this is how we do it:

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

    Amen!

  4. Bridget, Yasmin and Ayanna thanks for highlighting practical ways we can allow Jesus’ light shine to shine through us as good stewards of His glory. I am reminded of 2 Corinthians 4:7 where believers are told that “we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” I pray that I would constantly be reminded how much self needs to die and how humble I need to be because the treasure is Christ in me. I am the jar of clay.
