40 Days of Discipline: Day 25 – Service

This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (John 5:8)

Over the last two days we have looked at two concepts aimed at ensuring that we focus on glorifying God when we serve others.  Today, we consider the third and final concept: Sharing God’s Glory.

Sharing God’s Glory

The transformative power of the glory of God compels us to share with others, and we should not be lazy or casual about this responsibility.  Through service, we can attend to the physical needs of those around us, but we should not forget spiritual needs.  We practically share God’s glory with others by sharing Jesus.  While we should always attend to “natural” needs, let’s remember that ultimately what people need is God.

Question:

Are you comfortable with the idea of sharing Jesus with others through service?

  1. A wonderful song of worship. People DO need the Lord.

  2. I am very comfortable with the idea. As weird as it may sound, I have come to realize that I love to serve. I have often wished that I had the freedom of time and money, just so I could be a volunteer in an several different organizations that serves others in need.

The opportunity to share Christ, or just the fact that the people I serve may see Christ in me, would just make my service sweeter.

  3. I thought I could but am getting so many negative results and abuse that I sometimes feel I should just shut my mouth.
With strangers I may get a little smile.
With my sisters I get ” stop preaching”
The worse was when I was told by someone that I was not always a Christian etc and don’t know enough etc.. You see I am from a Muslim family that did not even practise.
Then I realized that no wonder it is the way it is this world.
We are all pigeon holed into who are supposed to be by race, culture etc.
The message that Jesus died for ALL needs to be told .
As someone said in one of the previous comments , We can’t be puffed up about our Faith or something to that effect.
Have you noticed even though people go to same church some have to be forced to say hi to their neighbors? It is difficult for them to say Good day.
So then I say to myself there is much work to be done):

    • Yasmin, thanks for being very real about this. It truly is not easy at times to share Jesus. The verse I think is encouraging us to live lives based on what God has asked us to do. That we can do. As we do that, hopefully we get the chance to share Jesus as people see us looking like Him.

  4. I do like sharing Christ through service and i used to go all out when i was in my teens but now, the time and resources to do so, is no longer available to me.
Still praying to get to the point where I can just up and offer my all in volunteer service.
