40 Days of Discipline: Day 40 – Passion Week

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22)

Today we conclude our 40 days of Discipline journey, and as has been our practice, Saturday is reserved for review.

This year we focused on the theme: Our Identity.  We discovered that the Disciplines are a vital resource in discovering and living out our God prescribed identity.  As we conclude Passion Week though, the most important lesson about our identity is this: Our real identity is to be found in Jesus.  He is the source and sustainer of our “new” identity.   As we celebrated His death yesterday and look forward to the celebration of His resurrection, we are reminded of the following:

20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)

My prayer for all of you is that as you consider your identity this verse will be in full operation in your lives.

I hope that over the course of our Lenten journey you have increased your commitment to practicing the Disciplines in service of being more like our lord and saviour Jesus Christ.

Something to think about:

The objective of the 40 Days of Discipline journey is spiritual growth.  What will you take away from this year’s journey to aid your growth in Christ?

  1. I could do better in all the disciplines but the one that I need to work on the most is Sabbath. I’m going to be more intentional about this. This was a tremendous journey and my prayer for all of us is that we would practice the disciplines throughout the year. Blessings

  2. i agree with the first comment, there is room for improvement in all the disciplines. The greatest challenge for me is the issue of fellowship.

  3. The Identity topic was ideal for me in this season as I consider next steps in my career. I have allowed my job to shape so much of my identity that I have not been open to God’s leading. Me identity is defined and purposes in Christ.

Thanks for coordinating this study! It has been a means of learning and encouragement. Until next year! 😊

  4. Dear Elder Norman thank you a million for coordinating this annual study. It has been a great challenge to participants. Thank you for you passion for this ministry. Blessings on you, Karen and the entire family.

  5. I need to dramatically improve on the discipline of fellowship. I am disconnected from the Church. I was a lot more connected back home. Being in a new country I have not managed to connect with anyone at my new Church nor am I involved in any groups. West side was very different, I was presented with various opportunities to integrate and connect with several groups and people. The groups were very interesting. It makes me see how welcoming and ‘fellowshiping’ West side is! Keep up the good work!

  6. I learnt so much . I also think I have improved I many areas.
Thank you so much for this study and the previous ones.
    I admire your commitment .
